October 6, 1943 - February 27, 2010
Robert (Bob) Mitchell, 66, of Chatham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, at Albany Medical Center with his loving sisters by his side.
He is survived by his sisters Valerie (Mitchell) Wallin and her husband Peter, Glennis (Mitchell) Whiffen and her husband Tim, nieces Heidi (Ferm) Nick and Emily (Whiffen) Warrington, and nephew Douglas Ferm. He is predeceased by his nephew Tyler Whiffen and his parents Robert (Roy) and Jill Mitchell.
Bob was born in Hendon, England during Second World War bombings of nearby London. He attended public and private schools in England, Canada, and the U.S., his family never settling in one place for more than two years at a time. He received an Associate's Degree from Albany Business College. He has worked as a New York City cab driver, a librarian at the Albany Public Library, a dispatcher in California, and a reporter for several local papers and websites.
He enjoyed traveling, writing, running, reading, debating, and spending time with his family. Known affectionately as U.B. for Uncle Bobby, his warm smile and soft spoken ways will be missed.
Bob had an adventurous spirit and lived life to the fullest. He saw life as a story to be written, rather than read, and the road less traveled as a source of inspiration. For that, he ended his days with many stories and many beloved friends.
The family will hold a private service at home.
Friends are invited to write memories in Bob's guestbook at http://www.wenkfuneralhome.com/
