Ann Elizabeth Wemitt passed away peacefully on May 6, 2012 at Barnwell Nursing Home. She was born on November 2, 1921 to Elizabeth Kelley and Claude Greene of Philmont New York. In May, 1943 she married Jerome Louis Wemitt and together they raised their family of nine in the bucolic village of Chatham. They had celebrated over 50 years of marriage together until his death in 1990. Ann was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Chatham and served on the altar guild, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and along with Doris Gorman as the organist she was the soloist at Sunday Mass, as well as too many weddings and funerals to number. Her devotion to Christianity was unquestioned as she and her husband could quote chapter in verse with the best of them. She was a den mother, teacher's aide at Faith Christian Academy, a member of the box office staff at MacHaydn Theater, waitress at Stanley's Restaurant (now Destino's), Check-out clerk at the First National, and lastly, she was a loving and nurturing mother of nine children which was truly a labor of love. She was a devoted friend, sage counsel and confidant to many. She was the beloved mother of Ann Overly, Mary Gilheany, Michael Wemitt, Patrick Wemitt (Joan), Katherine Borowski (Robert Borowski) Jerome Wemitt (Cyndi), and Monica Wemitt. Ann was the grandmother to 20 and a great grandmother to 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband parents and brothers she was predeceased by her daughters Celeste and Krista, her two brothers Robert and Lawrence, and her granddaughter Celeste. Calling hours will be Thursday May 10 from 10 a.m. - 12 at Wenk Funeral Home followed by services held at the same location. Interment will be in the St James Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Barnwell Nursing Home for their tender care during her last few months especially the fourth floor.
