Ann Veronica
"Wemitt" Overly
Mar 4, 1943 — Nov 2, 2024
Born March 4, 1943 to the late Jerome and Ann Wemitt of Chatham, NY, Ann Veronica Wemitt
Overly, 81 was the oldest of 10. On November 2, 2024 at 8:38pm she was surrounded by her
forever friend, the love of her life and former husband Robert "Bob" Overly, her children, her
jelly beans and chickadees Ann Margaret "Margie" Muse (husband, Steve Muse), Patrick
Robert Overly (wife, Agnes Overly) and Heather Rebekah Molina (late husband as of 7/12/24,
Raymond Molina Jr. watching and then greeting her in heaven as Jesus took her hand). What a
privilege to sing worship songs over her, hearing what she loved and thanking her for all she
was to us with final I love you's as she was taken into the presence of Jesus as sepsis ended
her life. She will be dearly missed by her very large family, her church family, community, the
staff and residents of Riverside but especially her grandbabies as she called them, Emma, Elise,
Lylah, Abigail and fur-grands, Rosie Posie, Roxy and Jemmibear.
After graduating Chatham High School she was accepted into the Columbia Memorial School
of Nursing. Her love of people and caring for people didn't just span for 50 years as a
Registered Nurse, but a lifetime of reaching out to people. Even in the later years to make
someone's day would leave Hershey Kisses on chairs, beds, desks or wherever to reach out to
another life. She wanted to make a person's day but also open the way to talk about Jesus and
hope to others.
Ann was a homemaker, extreme canner and knew how to stretch the finances. Pots of coffee
brewed daily. You could hear the hum of the sewing machine making clothes for her children
or triangle slings for the American Red Cross and matching Christmas jammies before it was
popular. She was way ahead of the times. Everything was homemade. Oh, the sound of her
whistle made one stop and listen to the mesmerizing sound. Taking piano lessons as music
always filled the home with classical, Christian gospel but especially Big Band. She was a
voracious reader and commanded the English language in her letter writing. Oh, to receive one
of her cards of encouragement or on the other hand, when she made her point abundantly
clear. She gleaned from reading her Bible, devotionals, concordances, how to pray, magazines,
cookbooks, medical journals, keeping up on the latest drug knowledge to help her patients. If
you need prayer, she was a prayer warrior that would storm heaven. The telephone was made
especially for her as she had a gift to gab and if you needed news to spread, she had already
signed up for the job. Her favorite thing to do was wish you a singing Happy Birthday and
Merry Christmas, then laugh afterwards as she knew she got you up.
For years, she took tap and jazz dance and loved performing on stage. Bob and Ann square
danced, could clear a floor dancing and they even got on Pete Williams Television Show. She
made holidays into traditions that are still carried out today. From Christmas wrapping paper
to match bows to a single detail of the ordinary to make it extraordinary to impact her family's
life. A table scape at holidays set the tone for the meal to come. Emily Post should have given
an award to Ann for doing things properly and in their place. She was fashionable and always
had her smellies – fragrance on. Her life was a fragrance of a delicate soft pink tea rose and
like life, had some thorns.
But the thorns, the prickly and difficulties of Ann's life came in the forms of Meneer's disease,
mental illness and 9 personalities. She tried so hard to navigate all the challenges to seem
normal. The balancing of being the best wife and mother she could until the seasons and meds
changed. At times tormented with no hope in sight. Her relationship with Jesus brought peace
and hope that maybe tomorrow would be better but was mixed with the reality of her
personalities. She struggled to keep friends and relationships. As her family watched the highs
and lows, many things challenged those words, I love you. Many years later, God allowed what
happened to bring about forgiveness toward Ann. See, the road of hurt, not great choices or
stopping relationships needed to be healed. See, for us to be healed by what mental illness did
to Ann and us, took a loving Jesus and His unconditional love entering us with forgiveness
toward Ann so each one of us could love her. Her years of regret and knowledge of what she
had done had been forgiven and covered by love. It was more than an olive branch but the
true loving mercy of God to heal our family. The restoration of family was the true intention of
God's purpose for Ann's life and what an incredible picture and the tangible true love of God
can look like on earth.
Private burial. Ann's family invite all to come to Remembering and Celebrating the Life of Ann
at Steve and Margie Muse's Home at 728 Canaan Road, Canaan, NY on November 17, 2024 at
1pm. Join us for food, laughter, tears, hugs and just a time of being. The house is small but lots
of love to be had.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please use that money to purchase flowers, a coffee, a meal
out for someone you need to spend time with and have no regrets. Get bags of Hershey Kisses
to offer Jesus and reach into someone else's world to make a difference. Ask your local
Nursing Center what new cloths they're residents would be grateful to receive. So many are
forgotten. Remember, no one can enjoy anything when they are dead. Reach into the lives of
others. Please do this in memory of Ann.
