Anna Mary Girdler Dunton, born May 12, 1923 in Canaan, NY, passed away on December 4, 2012 in Pittsfield, MA. She resided for most of her life in Canaan and served as the Town Historian for over 40 years. She was a founding member and curator of the Canaan Historical Society, and also was a member of the Columbia County Historical Society and of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Anna Mary worked for many years as a Registered Nurse and retired from Berkshire Farm School for Boys. She is survived by her three children: Susan (Robert) Smith, Timothy (Youling) Dunton, and Bill (Cheryl) Dunton. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Carrie Lenic, Mairin O'Rourke, Patrick O'Rourke, JamieAnn Dunton, Christina Dunton, Eric Dunton, and Sarah Dunton. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Lawrence Earl Dunton. Funeral services are private at the request of the family, but a celebration honoring Anna Mary's life will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 2-4 pm at the Canaan Fire House on Route 295 for those who wish to share their memories of her.
