Arlene M. Reed of Ghent, peacefully passed away on October 29, 2025 at the age of 94. Born in Bath, NH in June of 1931 to Charlon B. Mitchell and Bessie Evans who raised a large family of 11 children on the family farm.
Arlene graduated high school and went on to marry the love of her life, Romer C. Reed, who predeceased her. They raised a beautiful family of four children, Wanda (Robert - deceased) A. Francis of Chatham, Linda (James) DuJardin of Guys Mills, PA, Eric (Betsy Konig) Reed of Claverack and Cynthia (Daniel) Bozik of Omi, NY. Nine beloved grandchildren, Jamie (Gerry) Eagan of West Chazy, NY, Jennifer (Jared) Riley of Milton, FL, Janell (Jeff) Cubitt of Milton, FL, Jacob DuJardin of Guys Mills, PA, Erica (Rick) Tracey of Philmont, Travis Reed of Claverack, Rebecca (Steven) Taylor of Winchester, MA, Patrick (Kate Iaconetti) Bozik of Columbia, SC, Tara (Job) Thomas of Schenectady along with thirteen cherished great-grandchildren, Caleb, Abigail, Makenna & Emma Eagan, Janelle, Jayden & Jocelyn Riley, Grace Tracey, Noah, Samuel & Natalie Taylor, and Alexandra & Silas Thomas.
Arlene had a joyful, tenacious spirit that helped her weather life's storms. She loved gardening, reading novels, swimming, long walks, going to the movies, games especially Skipo & Rumikub, puzzles, dancing, socializing with friends, singing along to gospel & country music. She loved her many beloved pets that she had over the years.
In her younger years, Arlene was a wonderful homemaker who kept her kitchen stocked with homemade jams and bread. She was famous for her homemade pies & doughnuts. She was involved with the Ghent Mother's Club, was a Cub Scout Den mother and delivered the Register Star Newspaper. She was a certified nurse's aide and finished out her working years as a Ghent postal carrier for 15 years – her dream job.
Arlene was a member of the Ghent Seniors. She & Alice Bozik enjoyed being tour guides for many years where they took the club on countless adventures. She was also a member of the Stuyvesant-Stockport and Tri-Village Senior clubs where she loved to socialize.
Arlene was a woman of faith, who was a member of the First Reformed Church of Chatham. She was looking forward to meeting her creator and having her next big adventure.
Calling hours will be Friday Nov. 7, 2025 from 3 – 5 PM at the Wenk Funeral Home Chatham, NY. A funeral service will be held on Saturday Nov. 8, 2025 at 11 am. Also at the Wenk Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital – stjude.org. Condolences may be conveyed at wenkfuneralhome.com.
