Obituary

Arthur F. Baker 83 a longtime resident of Niverville, N.Y. died Friday at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Mr. Baker born March 29,1926 in Hudson, N.Y. is the son of the late Frank and Marian (Hoffman) Baker. He attended Chatham High School. Mr. Baker was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard from '43 - '46. He lived in Chatham for several years before moving to Niverville where he has lived for 54 years.. There He owned and operated a Gas Station for several years, and was head mechanic for Bervy Equipment in Chatham for many years. Mr. Baker was a Sheriff for Columbia County both part-time and later fulltime. He served on Boat patrol for the River as well as Kinderhook Lake, Served as Court Officer and Court House patrol. Mr. Baker was long time member of the Niverville Methodist Church having served on several boards. Life member of the Kinderhook Elk's Club Post # 2530, American Legion of Valatie, Tri-Village Senior's Group active in fund raising. He enjoyed fishing with his great grandson, avid Radio Control Equipment operator and a master wood worker. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Geraldine Baker who died in September 2009. He is Survived by a son Andrew F. Baker of Valatie, Daughters Donna Snowden-Paul of Lake City, Fl. Susan McCormick of Schenectady, N.Y. Sister Jean Goodrich of Rensselaer, N.Y. Grandchildren Aaron and Derek McCormick and Oscar Snowden. Great Grandchildren Mazon and Vanidie Snowden. Funeral Services will be held Thursday 10:00am from Niverville Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Chatham Center Cemetery.
