Arthur M. Kern 80 of Canaan,N.Y. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Ma. Mr. Kern born April 19,1928 in Chatham,N.Y. is the son of the late Ezra G. and Edith (Hitchcock) Kern. He graduated from Chatham High School and Oswego SUNY. Mr. Kern was employed with General Electric in Pitsfield, Ma. for 40 years as a Draftsman. Hea had a long service with the Masons that included Life member of Capital District Masonic Ass., Capital City Knights Templar of Albany, N.Y, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Albany, N.Y. Past Master of Cyprus Shriners of Albany,N.Y., Past President of the Columbia County Shrine Club, 32nd Degree Mason with the Columbia Lodge #98 F.&A.M. of Chatham, N.Y. also served as Past Master. Member of the Unity Lodge #9 F.&A.M. formely of New Lebanon, Order of Amaranth Court #100 of Chatham,National Geographic Society and life member of the N.R.A. Mr. Kern was an avid reader, Astronomist and had a great love of the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Nancy (Spencer) Kern of Canaan, N.Y. Sons William J. and wife Rita Soares-Kern of Chatham, Steven M. and his wife Susan Kern of Lewiston, Idaho. Survived also by 6 Grandchildren. He was Predeceased by a brother Richard Kern. Funeral Services will be held Friday 11:00am from the Wenk Funeral Home Chatham, Interment will be in the Canaan Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday evening 5- 8:00pm with a Masonic Service to held at 7:00pm.
