Barbara Sandstedt 64 of Canaan surrounded by her family passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer on Monday at her residence. Barbara born June 17,1953 in Flushing Queens is the daughter of Arnold Buttner of Boynton Beach, Fl. And the late Emilia (Buran) Buttner. She was a 1976 graduate of Queens College with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Along with her husband she moved to Canaan, N.Y. in 1976. Together they established Bar-Ken Service Center in 1977 and in 1988 Barbara began serving the community at the Canaan Corner Deli continuing her entrepreneurship. Besides her father Arnold Buttner, Barbara is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Sandstedt of Canaan and their children,Kristine Kirk and Husband Gary of Quincy, Ma.,and their children, Gavin, Rory and Sean, Sons Brian Sandstedt and his fiance' Ashley Bemiss and her daughter Madison of East Chatham, N.Y. Kory Sandstedt and wife Kristin and their son Noah of Quincy Ma., Her Father and Mother In-Law Bob and Grace Sandstedt of Canaan, N.Y. and Barbara's 3 Siblings Jeanette Boyle, Robert Buttner and Maryann Bernard. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening 4 – 8 pm from the Wenk Funeral Home Chatham. There are no funeral services.
