Betty Mason, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25th, at Ghent Rehabilitation and Nursing Home Ghent, surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Old Chatham, Betty touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and ever-present smile. Over the years, Betty built a career in both the banking and health care services industries, always known for her dedication and ability to make friends wherever she went. Outside of work, she was an avid equestrian in her younger years, and later found joy in tag sales, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother, a talented cook, and someone whose home was always filled with laughter, love, and delicious meals. Betty retired in 2006, embracing the chance to spend more time doing what she loved most. Her family was the heart of her world, and she cherished every moment shared with them. She is survived by her son, Perry Mason of Chatham, NY; her daughter, Robin (Mason) Cassella of Preston, CT; her brother Douglas Cowan of Canaan, NY and his wife Charlotte; and her beloved nieces, Tara and Courtney Cowan. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Mason, and her parents, Allen and Gertrude Cowan. A private family service and interment will be held at a later date. Betty will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the light she brought into the lives of those around her.
