Donna T. Bemiss (Dooda), 58, of Chatham passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 in her home. She was born January 6, 1956 in Albany, NY to John Devine and Mary (Carr) Devine. On August 13, 1983 she was married to Edward G. Bemiss Sr. of Chatham, NY. Donna was employed as an office manager in Chatham for R.H. Van Alstyne's for 10 years. Donna was a devoted member of St. James Church in Chatham. She was an active member of the Northern Columbia County Rotary Club for 13 years, serving on the board, was a past president for two years and was currently the treasurer. She served as past assistant governor for Rotary District 7210 and for the past five years, as the outbound director for youth exchange. Donna was also a charter member of the Chatham Village Historical Society and served as its president for about 12 years. The campaign to revitalize the Blinn-Pulver Farmhouse began under her presidency. As well as being a devoted wife and loving grandmother, she was an avid golfer and quilter. She often donated and raffled off her quilts to benefit, most recently, the Rotary Club.She leaves behind her beloved husband Ed; her stepson Michael Bemiss and his wife Erica of Chatham; and her stepson Edward Bemiss Jr. of Chatham. She also leaves a sister Virginia Gonzalez and her husband Anthony of Menands, NY; a sister Mary Devine of Bronx, NY; a brother William Devine and his wife Vera of Mechanicville, NY; and a brother Jack Devine of Jersey City, New Jersey. Donna also leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as three grandsons, Julian, Michael and Christopher. Calling hours will be held from 7pm-9pm Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Wenk Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. James Church in Chatham, NY. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Rotary Foundation c/o Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham, NY 12037.
