Obituary

WARRINGTON, EMILY MARGARET, 49, GHENT

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Emily

Margaret Warrington on May 29, 2023.  Born Emily Whiffen on August 22, 1973 in Hudson, NY to parents Timothy & Glennis Whiffen, and big brother, Timothy "Tyler" Whiffen.  After attending and graduating from the Chatham School District, Emily went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh in the field of Environmental Science.  After putting her degree to excellent use for many years working for the Columbia Land Conservancy, Emily brought her talents to the Columbia County office of the Cornell Cooperative Extension, where one of her favorite aspects of the job was working with her 4H families.  Most recently, Emily returned to her alma mater, taking a position  as a Teaching Assistant, allowing her to continue working with kids, which brought her great joy.

Emily spent her entire childhood growing up in Spencertown, NY where, much like her parents, her love of nature was born and she began her appreciation for all creatures, great and small.  In more recent years, trips with her family to their camp in the Adirondacks were treasured, as were her girls' trips to outlet shop for the holidays, and excursions to Montana for Western fresh air, blue skies and cousin-time.  As for guilty pleasures, Emily would often joke that a large fountain soda and a stack of unread People magazines could fill hours!  Her subtle sense of humor would leave you giggling, and your giggles were always met with her heartfelt laughter in response.  Emily had the kindest heart and was the most loyal of friends; those fortunate to know her well were honored to give that loyalty in return.  Of all that Emily cherished, it was the love for her family that ran deepest.   Her affection and dedication for her husband, Rob, and her son, Jesse, was unparalleled and she felt the love they returned was her greatest possession.

Emily is survived by Rob and Jesse Warrington, her mother, Glennis Whiffen, mother-in-law, Brenda Warrington, sister-in-law, Karla Whiffen and nephew, Cole Whiffen, aunt and uncle, Valerie and Peter Wallin, aunt and uncle, Richard (Rusty) and Jan Whiffen, and cousins Katie Whiffen, Heidi (Mike) Nick and Douglas (Linda) Ferm.  Emily also leaves behind several dear friends, for whom she will never be replaced. She is predeceased by her father, Timothy Whiffen, her brother Tyler and her father-in-law, Robert Warrington, Sr.

The Warrington and Whiffen families would like to thank everyone for their generosity in these last days since Emily's passing; it's been a great comfort and is much appreciated.

Funeral arrangements will be private for the family and will be arranged by

Wenk Funeral Home, Chatham, NY.  www.wenkfuneralhome.com

As a close friend stated in her memory, "Emily's heart ran deep and she cared for those others overlooked."  In that vein, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 125

Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534.
