Greta P. Nelson Van Tassel passed away on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 to be with The Lord.

She was born in Hudson, NY on July 17th, 1933 to Elmont and Gertrude Rightmyer Nelson.

She met her husband John Van Tassel in high school and they married in 1950.

She worked at Taconic Hills Central School driving kids to the school bus stop and then eventually worked in the school cafeteria.

Greta lived in Hudson, Ghent and finally in Kinderhook, NY.

One of her fondest memories was looking forward to picking her Dad up in Hudson at the train station on Friday evenings as he came home from New York City, where he worked on one of the Hudson River Dayliner boats.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her son Andrew, her son-in-law, Alan, daughter-in-law, Diane and her grandson, Drew.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her children are Julie (Alan) Colwell, John (Ann) Van Tassel, Timothy (Marnie) Van Tassel, Rodney (Colleen) Van Tassel and Andrew (Linnea) Van Tassel.

Her grandchildren are Drew Colwell, Christopher, Mark, Bill, Bryan (Hollie), Lydia and Alison Van Tassel and Daniel, Bethany and Stephanie Graziano.

Her great grandchildren are Ian Colwell, Jonathan, Amelia, Ellie and Cooper Van Tassel.

Calling hours will be held from 1pm-2pm Wednesday, February 4th, followed by a Funeral service at 2pm at the Wenk Funeral Home in Chatham, NY.
