Harold C. Sears

Harold Clifford Sears, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, in Florida, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, community service, and devotion to his family and friends.

Harold grew up in Claverack, New York, and lived there for most of his life. He spent much of his working life behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer for Mobil Oil, Columbia Box Board, and other companies, taking great pride in maintaining an accident-free driving record throughout most of his long career. His dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic extended far beyond his profession.

After retiring from his truck-driving career, Harold and his wife, Natalie, took over ownership of Sportsmen’s Outfitter from his son, Gary. After fully retiring, Harold moved to Hudson, Florida, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Service to others was an important part of Harold’s life. He proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with West Ghent and Claverack volunteer fire company's for more than 30 years and volunteered with the Greenport Rescue Squad for several years. Whether responding to an emergency or lending a hand to a friend or neighbor, Harold was someone others knew they could count on.

Family held a special place in Harold’s heart. He was a loving father to his son, Gary H. Sears of Guilderland, and his stepson, Michael Pirro, who predeceased him. He was also a proud grandfather to Hannah M. Sears of Mechanicville.

Harold was a devoted husband to his wife, Natalie (Borghi) Sears, until her passing. In later years, he shared his life with his longtime partner, Natalie Hughes, who survives him.

Harold was also predeceased by his father, Ernest “Ernie” Sears; his mother, Etta Sears; and his sister, Sally.

Those who knew Harold will remember a hardworking man with a generous spirit—a devoted father and grandfather, a dedicated volunteer, a dependable friend, and a good neighbor. Through his years of service and the countless ways he helped others, Harold made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, neighbors, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Memorials may be made to the West Ghent Volunteer Fire Co. 74 Bender Blvd Ghent, N.Y. 12075 For on-line condolences, visit wenkfuneralhome.com
