Helen Oles Gilbert 77 of Ghent -Mellenville Rd. Ghent, N.Y. died unexpectedly Wednesday at Albany Medical Center. A life time resident of Chatham, She was born August 30,1931 to the late Donald and Marietta (Adams) Oles. Helen was graduate of Chatham High School and a 1952 graduate of Columbia Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a social worker and Supervisor of Child Protective Services for Columbia County Department of Social Services. She was a lifetime member of the Columbia County Democratic Party. Helen was the Columbia County School Girl Queen in 1949 and was as beautiful the day she died as she was then. If you were to ask Helen to highlight her lifetime achievement, it would be her love and devotion to her family. She was a member of Maranatha Christian Church in Chatham, She is survived by four children, Glenn Gilbert of Canaan, Wendy Zwingelberg of Chatham, Kelly Bleichert of Latham, Jeffrey Gilbert of Ghent, along with their spouses , 8 Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews and cousins. Mrs. Gilbert was predeceased by her husband Harold R. Gilbert, Sister Doris E (Oles) Davis, Brother David J. Oles Sr. and sister Marion Oles. Funeral Services will be held Sunday 1:00pm from the First Reformed Church Chatham, interment will be in the Ghent Union Cemetery.
