Irene Ansmann, age 79, of Austerlitz passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Flushing, Queens on May 30, 1940 to the late Albert and Frances Sulzbach.  She grew up in College Point, Queens.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Mary (Andy) Gerhardt of Austerlitz, NY; Suzanne Collins of Naugatuck, CT; her grandchildren, Andrew, Madeline and Luke, a great granddaughter, her sister Jane Arnold, stepsister Anne Wendel, many nieces and nephews and foster children Elaine Montchal and Kenny Musgrove.

Irene was predeceased by her daughter, Theresa and grandson Willy.

Irene was a homemaker and took many children into her care.  From adopting to foster children who she thought of as her own to babysitting.  She was always helping and volunteering either in person or through letters and donations.  She was exceptionally religious and was always ready to give and to help.  She was the type of person that comes around once in lifetime.  She turned the sorrows of her life into love for others.  She worked for a time at Godiva Chocolate in Manhattan.  She was a member of St. James Church in Chatham.
