WEST COXSACKIE –John Henry Nickles (85) passed away June 17, 2024 after a brief illness.

Born on May 25th 1939, the eldest son of Irving and Elsie (Hutchinson) Nickles, he graduated from Chatham High School in 1956. He received a BS in Chemistry from Union College in 1960 and a MA in History from the University of New Hampshire.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Pflegl Nickles and his son, John A. and his brothers I. MacArthur (Mac) (Rosalie) and Nicholas J. (Nick) (Mary Jane) and his sister-in-law, Brenda. He was predeceased by his brother David.

He taught Chemistry for the Health Sciences at Hudson Valley Community College for thirty-seven and a half years. He received the Chancellor Award for Excellence in Teaching and was beloved by students and colleagues alike. He always had an avid love of local history.

Funeral services will be held at the New Baltimore Reformed Church on Monday June 24. The viewing will be at 11:00 am, followed by the service at 12:30 pm. Interment will be held at the Canaan Cemetery. For on-line condolences, visit wenkfuneralhome.com
