Obituary

John (Jack) W. Howes (b. 10/4/36) a lifelong resident of Spencertown, NY died Tuesday, January 20, 2021.

In his younger days Jack might be caught racing his Model A on his lunch break or singing barbershop with "The Outhouse Quartet". He was a veteran serving in the Navy during the Korean War. He loved antique cars and mentoring young enthusiasts. In retirement he could be found in his garage working on his 1931 Model A Ford, telling stories and corny jokes.

Jack's educational background included an Electrical Engineering degree from Lowell Tech, landing him a position at GE.

His passion for Math led him to a career in teaching and was known for giving real life lessons. He was always teaching someone something. He taught school at Berkshire Farm for boys, High Mowing School in Wilton NH, and finished his career at The Darrow School in New Lebanon NY.

He is survived by his wife Gail (of nearly 60 years), brother Paul Howes, sons Russell Howes (Cherie), Robin Howes, daughters Mary Banker (Roy), Lucy Keegan, and Polly Engel (Jay), five grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his son (John W. Howes, Jr) and granddaughter (Emily Eckstrom) brother William (Bill) Howes.
