On September 13, 2012, with her mother and grandfather at her side, Lauren Dapice lost her battle after years of illness and joined the ranks of God's angels. Diagnosed with kidney disease at age 2, Lauren faced her health struggles with courage, perseverance and a wonderful sense of humor. She would proudly live off the many medical milestones that she survived including three failed kidney transplants, cancer, a stroke and countless surgeries. Lauren was a fighter who touched and inspired so many with her heroism, her laughter, her joy and her compassion for others. During times of wellness, she loved to cook, spend time with friends, take mother/daughter trips and charm those around her with her wit and beauty. Lauren always put her own issues aside when a friend needed her support. She was a carefree spirit who was wise beyond her years. She tried hard not to let her illness rule her life and participated on the Chatham High School tennis team and cheerleading squad, took college courses and played a role as a survivor in numerous Albany Medical Center Melodies of Christmas. Lauren was her mother's greatest joy and best friend. As Lauren always said, they shared a special bond. In addition to her Mom, Denise Dapice, she is survived by her grandfather, Thomas Martin, who she adored like a father, her father, Robert Dapice of White Plains, her stepfather Barry Sears, grandmother Kay Irish, step sister Jessica Sears and many aunts, uncles and cousins who adored her. Lauren loved flowers, blue skies with white clouds and animals. Donations may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society in her honor.
