Michael R. Clunis, 70, of Chatham, NY passed away in Whittier Nursing Home on October 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Mike was born March 25, 1943 to the late Durlard, (Guy) Clunis, and Mary Elizabeth, Tighe Clunis. Mike lived a life of service to his country and his community. He was a Vietnam War Veteran having served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1971. The police departments he was honored to have been an officer with include: Topeka Police Department, Waterford Police Department, Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department, Columbia County Sheriff's Department, Chatham Police Department, and the Stratton VA Veterans Hospital in Albany where he served as Chief of Police. He also was Past Commander of American Legion Post 42 of Chatham, NY. Mike is survived by a daughter Nicole Williams, a son Matthew Clunis two grandsons, a sister Mary Patricia Clunis and many caring friends and companions. He also leaves behind his beloved German Shepard, "Shep." A mass will be held Tuesday 12:30 pm from the St James R.C. Church Chatham, Interment will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors.
