Obituary

Palmer G.Layton 83 of Line St. Chatham died Tuesday at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Layton born June 11,1928 in Millboro, Va. Is the son of the late Walter and Ruby (Marshall) Layton. He was a veteran of the U.S.Air Force having served from 1945- 1949. He was employed with Columbia Box Board Mill in Chatham for many years and for 30 years he was truck driver for Mabey's Moving and Storage. Mr. Layton drove bus for C.O.A.R.C for a couple of years after his retirement. Mr. Layton was a 50 year member of the Chatham Fire Department and a member of the American Legion Post # 42 of Chatham . He is survived by 3 Sons. Steven Layton of Valatie, James (JP) Layton and wife Debi and Walter E. Layton and wife Kim all of Chatham. 3 Daughters Carolyn (Sue) Layton and husband Jim of Chatham, Linda Vinchiarello and late husband Mike of Niverville, Pamela Barnes and husband Dan of Hudson, Brother Raymond Layton and Sisters Geraldine Fitzgerald, Imogene Deeds, Agnes Morris all of Virginia. Survived also by 19 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Bonnie (Putnam) Layton 2004 , Sisters Evelyn Matheney, Alma Keyser, Brothers Homer and Melvin Layton.
