Obituary

Regina Mesick 90 a long time resident of Ghent died Wednesday at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Mesick born November 9,1922 in West Park,New York is the daughter of the late Gustav and Hazel (Ackert) Schmidt. She obtained a teaching degree from New Paltz College and for over forty years she was a school teacher in the Ghent School until her retirement and the school closed in 1985. She with her husband the late Beebe Mesick( 2006) attended the kick off of restoring the school bell in 2005 and having been quoted " I probably still would be teaching as long as the school was open. Every year was different and every year was good. We had very nice children and nice classes." A couple of months later when the bell restoration was completed and a dedication ceremony was held, Mrs. Mesick was presented the first membership card for the Ghent Alumni Association. Mrs. Mesick was also a Chartered Member of the Ghent Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxillary in 1958. She was also a communicant of St James R.C. Church Chatham. Besides her husband of fifty years, she was predeceased by her brother Gustav Schmidt. She is survived by her Nieces Cynthia and husband Elise Muaau of Leesburg, Va., Cheri and husband Harry Brown of Malta, N.Y. and Nephew Steven Schmidt of Newark, N.J. and many great Nieces and Nephews and Cousins. And dear Marnie Beers of Ghent. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 10:00am from the St James R.C. Church Chatham. Interment will be in the St James Cemetery.
