It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Richard H. Ludington of Valatie, NY (formerly of Spencertown, NY).  He passed away January 10th at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a brief illness.

Richard was born on December 13th, 1936 in New York City to Howard Ludington and Marie

Bell Ludington. He graduated from White Plains High School and later attended Syracuse University. He spent most of his adult life working in the trades starting out in plumbing, followed by a long career in heating and cooling. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping and long walks in the Adirondacks, and was a lifelong fan of the Mets. He also enjoyed talking and giving advice on a variety of topics to anyone who would listen.

He was predeceased by his wife Dona Williams Ludington as well as his sister Delores Hausler and brother-in-law Robert Hausler.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Balthazard (Wayne) and Ruth Huber (Jim) and his son

Donald Ludington (Patti).  He was a loving grandparent to Rebecca (Ray), Danial, Jacqueline (Bart), and James (Stephanie).  He is also survived by his many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Spencertown Fire Department or The Adirondack Museum on Blue Mountain Lake.

His family asks that anyone who is planning to attend his service consider wearing your best flannel and jeans to honor his legacy of never liking to get dressed up. Calling hour will be Saturday – January 25 10 -11:00am with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 from the Wenk Funeral Home Chatham, Inurnment will be in the Ghent Union Cemetery.
