Shirley Mae McCagg passed away at Barnwell Nursing Home on Saturday, August 10, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born July 7, 1931 in Hudson, NY, the daughter of the late Sherwood and Irene Garrison. She graduated from Hudson High School and married John on August 14, 1949, a blessed union of 58 years. Shirley is survived by her five children: Sherwood McCagg (Tonja), Judie Lange (Bob), Jack McCagg (Rita), Petrena Craver (Willy), Bonnie Bertram (Jim), 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John and her sister, Doris Conte. Shirley had several different jobs but her favorites were working at the Mother Goose Boutique and in the medical office of Dr. Skarp and Dr. Singer. Her favorite past time was making Christmas crafts which her children will display each Christmas in loving memory of their "mom". Shirley also had a green thumb which was evident in the lovely gardens on display at their house on Snyder Road. Shirley was a life long member of the Ghent Reformed Church/. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Ghent Fire Company. Because of Shirley's love of all animals, but especially cats, donations are suggested to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, NY 12534. Calling hours are 12 - 2, with a service at 2 on Tuesday, August 13, at the Wenk Funeral Home. Chatham Interment will follow in the Ghent Union Cemetery.
