Stephen Arto, Jr. age 78, passed away peacefully on January 6th 2024 at home on his farm in West Lebanon, New York with his wife and daughter by his side. Stephen was born February 1st, 1945 to parents Irene and Stephen Arto Sr. of West Lebanon New York. He graduated from New Lebanon High School in 1963 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1965. He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 as radio relay operator and was honorably discharged in 1971. Stephen retired from NYSEG after 31 years as a first class lineman. He dedicated himself to his farm, where he enjoyed raising and caring for quarter horses. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, mechanical ability, strength and toughness, and hard work ethic . An avid outdoor sportsman, Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and had his private pilot license. Most days he was on his tractor around the farm. One of his favorite things to say was: "make hay while the sun shines," something he did every year of his life.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife, F. Jamie Arto of 46 years, and his daughter Meredith Arto (Winch). He was a proud and loving Papa to his three granddaughters, Rose, Scarlett, and Fiona. He is also survived by a sister, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service and internment will take place later in the year at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Lebanon, New York.
