It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Timothy A. Whiffen on November 28.  Born on August 1, 1945, Tim lived his entire life in Spencertown, building his home on his father's land.  He is survived by his cherished wife of 47 years, Glen, his daughter and son-in-law Emily and Rob Warrington, his daughter-in-law Karla Whiffen, his grandsons Jesse Warrington and Cole Whiffen, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Valerie and Peter Wallin, his brother and sister-in-law Richard (Rusty) and Jan Whiffen, his nieces Katie Whiffen and Heidi (Mike) Nick, and nephew Douglas (Linda) Ferm, as well as a loving extended family in New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Arkansas and Montana.  He is predeceased by his son Tyler Whiffen and brother-in-law Robert Mitchell.

After graduating from Chatham High School, Tim served four years in the United States Navy, eventually working as a lineman for New York State Electric & Gas, retiring after 30 years.  During that time, Tim also operated a sawmill, selling kiln-dried lumber.

Tim loved the simple things in life--wool Filson vests, whiskey and a good cigar, the Adirondack Mountains, James Michener, John Denver, Cooks Magazine, draft horses, hunting, gardening, woodstoves, and animals.  An honest and true man, if Tim shook your hand, you had his word, and he expected the same.  He was known to carry on conversations with everyone, even the sales people while placing an order with Cabela's.   He'll be remembered for his bellowing laugh, NYSEG stories, and heart-warming whistling, as well as his homemade pies for people in need.  For Tim, a day in the woods was a good day.  He taught his children and grandchildren to appreciate nature and conservation, and live simply.   We are honored and blessed to have had him in our lives and all that he taught us.  There will not be another.
